Last Saturday on August 7, 2010, Jerry Rice was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Each inductee celebrated in their own private tent on the hall of fame grounds in Canton, Ohio. While Biz Markie and Bell Biv Devoe rocked in Emmitt Smith’s tent, John Legend and I rocked next door in Jerry’s. When Jerry tore up the dance floor to Too Short’s “Blow The Whistle,” we knew the party was going all night.

Hugo Boss’s annual rooftop party is one of my favorites of the year. There is simply no better place to deejay than underneath the stars in the summer breeze. On top of Hugo Boss headquarters, overlooking the city lights, the feeling was in the air as the party people danced to the sounds of Mel Debarge, Janell Monae, Robin Thicke, and myself. Can’t wait ’til next year…

On Friday, July 16th (yes, I know, I’m a little tardy with blogs), I performed at B.B. Kings with Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronny Devoe, otherwise known as Bell Biv Devoe. Twenty years after the release of “Poison,” the song is potent as the year it was released. The ladies scream for the guys like they are still in junior high and the guys belt every word to “When Will I See You Smile Again.” I hadn’t seen the crew on stage since they tore down my birthday at Cipriani with KRS-One two years ago, so it was a special treat for me (particularly because they brought out Kangol Kid, Roxanne Shante, and Force M.D.’s to surprise the fans. When “Tender Love” hit the speakers, the place erupted. If I could play these type of shows every night, I would. Every song I let go until the moment I brought the guys out turned into an instant sing-a-along. The feel-good summer spirit felt so fresh. So fresh indeed…

Two years ago, I played this event with Kanye at Gustavino’s. Judging by what a party that was, tonight is destined to be an evening to remember. “Don’t stop, make it pop, deejay blow my speakers up…”

“Russell Simmons Presents Stand-Up At The El Rey” premiered Sunday night on Comedy Central with two back-to-back episodes and the ratings were through the roof! If you missed it, make sure you watch the repeats on Friday and the new episode on Sunday at 11pm. It feels great to part of the legacy that began with “Def Comedy Jam” and the legendary Kid Capri. JB Smoove is simply brilliant. I am truly grateful to Russell and Stan Lathan for this amazing opportunity.

Comprised of a sisterly duo of noble backgrounds, Yazbukey is made up of Yaz & Emel. Having each earned their stripes through various stints in the fashion world with the likes of Margiela, Givenchy, Jeremy Scott and Christan Lacroix, 2010 marks the accessory brand’s 10th anniversary. Some birthday items include some references to pop culture including Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga as well as other colorful brooch designs. Guess which one I’m getting?
