HE HAS ALWAYS DEFINED THE PHRASE “EFFORTLESS STYLE” TO ME (WITH JUNE AMBROSE, WHO COINED IT, OF COURSE). LATER THAT NIGHT, DEREK BLEW OUT HIS BIRTHDAY CANDLES AT GOLD BAR. MAKE SURE AND CHECK OUT THE SECOND SEASON OF HIS AMAZING SHOW “G’S TO GENTS” ON MTV.

Yellow Magic Orchestra is an influential Japanese band, formed in 1978. They are renowned as a major influence in Japanese popular music and for pioneering the technopop music genre. Making abundant use of new synthesizers, samplers, and digital and computer recording technology, their popularity and influence extended beyond Japan as they are highly regarded as pioneers of electronic music. After the release of their motion picture “Propaganda”, the band stopped working as a group in 1984. Their most famous song, “Firecracker,” was released as a single under the name “Computer Game.” On early US pressings of the album “Yellow magic Orchestra,” “Computer Game ‘Theme from The Circus’” and “Firecracker” were combined as one track, while the firecracker sound effect at the end of the track was indexed by itself as “Firecracker”. This was corrected on later pressings. this video, as all ymo music, was way ahead of its time. you can surely see its major influence on music and art of today.
