  • WHATCHU TALKIN’ BOUT LINN DRUM?

    12.11.08

WHEN SEASON EIGHT OF DIFF’RENT STROKES PREMIERED IN 1986 BEFORE GETTING CANCELED LATER THAT YEAR, THE CLASSIC THEME SONG CO-WRITTEN BY ALAN THICKE AND GLORIA LORING (PARENTS OF ROBIN THICKE) HAD BEEN GIVEN AN ’80S REMIX. PEEP THE LINN DRUM TOMS AND HANDCLAPS. YOU MIGHT ALSO REMEMBER THAT THE DRUMMONDS’ LIVING ROOM ALSO RECIEVED A MAJOR ’80S MAKEOVER, AS ALL PAISLEYS WERE REPLACED WITH PASTELS. BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL SEASON ONE THEME SONG FOR COMPARISON.

    CRATES, HERNIAS, & PAPERCUTS

    12.11.08

DO YOU REMEMBER CRATES? ON MARCH 10TH, 2005 MINE RETIRED. I HAVEN’T VISITED THEM SINCE. THEY LIVE AT MY DAD’S HOUSE IN MY FORMER EVERY-OTHER-WEEKEND BEDROOM WHERE MY ENTIRE RECORD COLLECTION GREW UP AND ALSO LIVES. I DON’T MISS CARRYING THEM OR THE MANY HERNIA SCARES AND TRIPS TO THE UROLOGIST (ALTHOUGH I DO MISS SITTING ON THEM. SEE THE ABOVE PICTURE CIRCA AUGUST 2003, EAST HAMPTON, PUFFY’S ANNUAL WHITE PARTY). I DON’T MISS PREPARING THEM FOR TWO HOURS BEFORE GIGS, TRYING TO PREDICT IF I’LL WANT TO PLAY OLD SCHOOL REGGAE OR NOT. I DON’T MISS PAPERCUTS, ALTHOUGH I DO MISS THE EXCUSE FOR BI-WEEKLY MANICURES. I DON’T MISS THE STATIC OR LOW VOLUME ALBUM CUTS. I DON’T MISS SENDING MY CRATES ON THEIR OWN LITTLE PLANE WITHOUT ME FROM NICE TO SAINT-TROPEZ (SEE THE ABOVE PICTURE CIRCA MAY 2004, CAP FERRAT. PEEP THE INITIALS ON THE RED BAG. C STANDS FOR CAMPBELL). I DON’T MISS TAXIS PASSING ME BY OR SQUEEZING SIX IN THE TRUNK, ONE ON MY LAP, ONE IN THE FRONT…I DON’T MISS ANY OF THAT. BUT I DO KIND OF MISS THEM.

“SWAGGER LIKE T.I. KANYE, WAYNE, PUFF, AND…CASS!”

    12.11.08

T.I. FEAT. KANYE WEST, JAY-Z, & LIL WAYNE “SWAGGER LIKE US”

Although there is no official video for this song, this might as well be it. Very creative and very well done…and very time-consuming.

    DIDDY “SWAGGER LIKE PUFF”

I’ve obviously posting all these Swagger videos a little late, but I just started this blog so it’s ok…Shortly after Swagger Like Us was released, Puffy released this blog video in response. Shortly after that, I released this…

    DJ CASSIDY “SWAGGER LIKE CASS”

I think I might do more of these :) .

DJ CASSIDY’S BIRTHDAY AT CIPRIANI 7/11/08

    12.10.08

    PART I

    PART II

This night was a dream. One of the greatest nights of my life. I’ve been throwing these birthday parties since my teens (I will post others soon). This one will certainly be a tough act to follow, but I already have ideas…

Nineteen years before joining at my birthday, KRS-One, D-Nice, and Doug E. Fresh joined Ms. Melodie, Stetsasonic, Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Just-Ice, Heavy D., and Public Enemy to record “Self Destruction” for the Stop The Violence Movement. D-Nice produced the record.

Seventeen years before performing “Poison” at my birthday, Bell Biv Devoe performed it on The Arsenio Hall Show.

ENUR FEAT. STRANGE BOY “YOU LIKE THE WAY”

    12.09.08

From Check Your Coat to You Like The Way, Greg Nice returns as Strange Boy, collaborating with Enur on their fall 2008 release, Raggatronic. Enur is a Copenhagen-based duo consisting of brothers DJ Rune RK and Johannes Torpe. They are most widely known for their song, Calabria, featuring Natasja Saad, who died in a car accident in June 2007, six months before the song hit the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay chart. Natasja released three solo albums before her untimely death.

Genreless music at its best. Stay tuned for Strange Boy’s debut album…Let’s take it back to the old school, let’s take it to Union Square! Let’s take it into the future, wave your hands like you just don’t care!

    O’NEAL MCKNIGHT “CHECK YOUR COAT”

    12.08.08

Because my blog is brand new, I feel the need to back-track a little bit. This is the music video for Check Your Coat, the first single from O’Neal McKnight. O’Neal is the first artist signed to my production company, Cass & Dubs. Cass & Dubs is myself and Dub-L. We produced and co-wrote Check Your Coat as well as O’Neal’s whole album, Prom: 2008, which will be released in 2009 on SRC/Universal Motown Records.

Before getting signed, O’Neal was a renowned celebrity stylist. One of his biggest clients was Sean “Puffy” Combs. Through DJing Puffy’s parties for many years and hanging with former Puffy assistant, Fonzworth Bentley, I met O’Neal. One night I was going through some new beats Dubs and I had made the night before and O’Neal started to hum a melody. One hour later, we had written Check Your Coat. O’Neal soon got signed by Steve Rifkind, CEO of Loud Records and SRC, and the first song we ever recorded together became his first single. The song features Greg Nice from Nice ‘N Smooth. This had special meaning to me because the first record I ever owned was Sometimes I Rhyme Slow/Hip Hop Junkies.

The video shoot for Check Your Coat was a big day for all of us. Super director, Little X, shot it which was amazing in itself and our good friends at Tenjune, Mark and Eugene, let us film at their club. Aside from the many cameos we were honored with, I got to reinnact one of my favorite movies of all time. You could hear a pin drop during those scenes…

    Great scott, O’Neal!
